HeartStone Ranch Wedding - Hilary & Gavin

Sometimes small and intimate is the way to go, and that's exactly what Hilary & Gavin chose to do for their big day! The DNTeam headed up to HeartStone Ranch in May to share in the couple's wedding celebration. Heartstone Ranch is 12 acres of private property in the Carpinteria Foothills complete with rose gardens, beautiful lawns, an outdoor pergola with fireplace, fields & fields of flowers, and pastures with grazing horses, goats and hummingbirds. The location was a perfect match for the couple's rustic DIY themed wedding that included succulent infused bouquets and an outdoor party-style reception.

The styling for the event was done by the wonderful Cassandra Sterns of Borrowed Blu who did a beautiful job decorating the reception with pastoral burlaps, vintage glasses and dishware, twine embossed vases and so much more fun pieces to create the perfect look!  The owner of Hearstone Ranch also collects antique and vintage pieces and they incorporated some antique furniture, vintage signs and ornate cake stands for the Dessert Display.  To top off the decorations for the celebration, Hilary's sister hand-made her one thousand origami paper cranes to bring one thousand years of happiness and prosperity upon the couple!

The smaller size guest list allowed us to set up a circle-style wedding ceremony... something we've always wanted to do! The couple entered into their vows to each other with their loved ones on all four sides of them – it was such an intimate and very personal wedding experience! Another great thing about weddings of a smaller scale is it allowed the couple to plan for more activities! Guests lounged at the cocktail hour, enjoyed games of bocce ball, challenged one another to croquet on the lawn and still had time to shimmy down on the dance floor. The couple also opted to have a Dessert Display with tasty treats from bakeries like Porto's for their guests instead of just having one traditional cake – a pretty sweet deal if you ask us!

We are always so glad to share in the joy of weddings and the DNTeam is so delighted to have been a part of this celebration! Pictures from the happy day follow below. All photos are courtesy of Leila Brewster Photography.

It has taken us a while to finally get involved in the blogosphere, and for that we apologize! But here we are at last, ready to blog away about flowers, wedding gowns, color schemes, DIY projects, and all things pretty! We hope you enjoy our new blog, and to get things started, here is a little retrospective of what we have been up to lately...

DNT 2011 Retrospective

A wedding can say so much about a couple… Of course, most weddings have similar elements – a white dress, a tiered cake, flowers, ribbons, placecards; but the true inspiration is in the way these elements are combined to form something inherently unique and personal.

Melanie and Sotiris’s wedding at the Athenaeum at Cal Tech in Pasadena was a gorgeous array of elegant romanticism. The ivory roses & freesia lent a vintage feel to the décor, while Melanie's sophisticated dress and smooth lines of the black and white wedding cake pulled everything together to feel modern and fresh. Add a little color with a pop of pink ribbon on the bride’s bouquet, and the effect is truly stunning.

Bora and Rick however, went with a contemporary and fresh approach. Keeping things clean and modern at their wedding at Segerstrom Concert Hall in Costa Mesa, this couple was all about simplicity & sophistication.

The attention to details are what make this wedding so special and unique. In contrast to the smooth clean lines incorporated throughout the decor, the bride’s gown had lacy ruffles and soft detailing. This is a bride who knows how to blend the romantic feel with a modern look!

And who doesn’t love a Dessert Bar? This tempting array of sweets from Sweet &Saucy Shop was eye candy and a perfectly delectable way to end the evening…

Lily and Ed chose more of a lighthearted and rustic theme for their wedding; soft yellows and blues punctuated by lots of sparkle and bling.

Everything about this wedding was charming and fun, from the outdoor ceremony with the majestic oak tree to the twinkle lights in the tented reception area at Calamigos Ranch in Malibu. And can we just say, the little guy in shades is too adorable for words!
